Do The Donkey Kong!

Ever heard of Pac-Man Fever? It’s an album by Buckner & Garcia that came out in 1982 on casette, LP and 8-track tape; The album features 8 songs about different arcade games including Frogger, Donkey Kong and Pac-Man!

The album was re-recorded and re-released back in 1999 and is now available on iTunes. The song “Pac-Man Fever” is also now available on Rock Band 3 (R.I.P) whilst other songs from the album might also turn up as DLC at a later date.

I know why you're here though; to get blown away by the intensity of the ape. The song seems as though it should be played in some old school disco, much like the one off Back To The Future - I'm sure as hell Marty McFly would have had no trouble getting down to this.

Hey, it's vaguely better than the DK Rap I suppose, well, maybe... I'll need some time to ponder.

Donkey Kong VS Batman!

"Times change, people change, it's just what happens y'know?". Yes, it seems that even Mario has to, on occasion, succumb to typical melodramatic teen quotes when it comes to love; Pauline is heart broken - Mario's all about Peach nowadays with her lush blonde hair and incredible cake making skills but what does this mean for poor Pauline? Is she just left to be brutally murdered by Donkey Kong?

Thankfully Pauline is set to live another day as Batman is here to save her from her worst fears (As a rape alarm just wouldn't suffice for a princess) - In one of the most unlikely cross overs for quite some time, Deankotz has created this awesome mock up of what would be (In my ape tinted glasses) one of the best comics of all time, if only it were real.

In bed with DK

When you go to bed every night, don’t you wonder how much better it would be if you were joined by DK? Well it seems that our wishes have come true! This Donkey Kong Quilt will not only keep you warm on those long winter nights but it will also ensure that you have dreams not even the likes of Entei or Leonardo Dicaprio could top!

Mind.In.A.Box - R.E.T.R.O

You like the Commodore 64? You like Synth-Pop? Well then just imagine if they combined to make a unique and overwhelmingly nerdy fusion of fantastic beats and old school sounds – Well, my friend, there’s no need to imagine anymore as Mind.In.A.Box released their fantastic album R.E.T.R.O last year which led to excited 40 year olds reminiscing about ‘old skool’ days when they were being blown away by the immense POWER of the Commodore 64 (as oppose to living out 80′s stereotypes by sporting big hair and dancing to Cyndi Lauper).

This album is a great indication that whilst 2009 was the resurgence of Synth-Pop, 2010 also did it’s bit in the electronica field and there’s nothing to say that this year will be any different. As I know you all enjoy classic gaming and music that doesn’t involve the words “Do The Donkey Kong”, I took it upon myself to share this marvel of an album with you all.

M.I.A.B cover computer game classics like “Lightforce” and “The Last V8″ and mix them with their own compositions to create a completely awesome album, I’ve scoured Youtube and picked out my personal favourite, “The Last Ninja” – See what you think!

There’s loads on offer here though, so if you have Spotify you should take a listen to the whole album – Or head on over to iTunes and download it!

Mecha Yoshi

Forget Megatron, The Terminator or Six Machine (sorry, Joe) – Mecha Yoshi is here and set to cause carnage throughout the mushroom kingdom!

But how do you get a robotic Yoshi? The creator says…

“I have finally finish[ed] my Yoshi Mech. I used a Playmobile police station thing for the back computer, and some Lego laptops for the front display and keyboards. This came out really cool, and I can’t wait to do another. I think Luigi may be next”

Check out more work from Kodykoala including an awesome zombie like Luigi!

Mini Mushrooms!

Don't you hate it when you have a night out on the town and then some chav comes along and stabs you? Well now you needn't worry with this Mushroom Bottle - Great for when you need an extra life on the go.

"This little bottle is about an inch tall and contains six tiny mushroom charms in all the colours of the rainbow. The charms are suspended in long lasting resin which gives the look of liquid without the risk of leaking."

You can get this majestic little wonder by clicking here!

Freshen Up! Freshen Up! Freshen Up For Candy Kong!

I’m a huge fan of Donkey Kong. In fact, if Donkey Kong demanded that I shower naked for his viewing pleasure I would smile politely and say “If that is what you wish”.

Luckily for me, that slightly disturbing hypothetical situation could quite possibly become a reality as this Donkey Kong shower proves! I can now lather up infront of the big ape until my heart’s content… wait; it’s a Donkey Kong Junior shower?! Well now I just feel like a pedophile (Much like when I listened to and enjoyed baby by the Biebster).

This is the wonderful creation of Andres Barragan and Miss Vynilos! Forget your modern whites, it’s all about pixelated art work!

Ken Hirai - Pop Star

It's Thursday so you know the drill... wait, you don't? Oh right yeah, the blog's still new - In that case, I present you with the first music video to grace this page; Ken Hirai's Pop Star! Every Thursday I'll present you with the best J-Pop/VGM of the moment (and by the moment I mean whatever I'm currently listening to, natch).

With the introduction over then, let me tell you about this ear pleasingly intense song and majestic artist. I first heard Pop Star when playing Moero! Nekketsu Rhythm Damashii: Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan 2 which is the sequel to Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan, the Japanese version of the awesome Elite Beat Agents!

The song see's our beauty Ken Hirai longing to be a Pop Star, who also most shockingly plays every person in the music video - Yes, even the bears! At one point you even see Hirai San being lifted into the air via swing much like Ai Ai in the original Super Monkey Ball. I know what you're thinking; Monkey Ball references, bears and an afro wig? This video couldn't be improved in any way imaginable! Well... maybe if it had better lighting and a higher budget.

Still, after watching the video I have to say I fell deeply in love with old Hirai and haven't been able to stop listening to his music for weeks now, even if his voice is freakishly high pitched - I can only hope you share the same opinion and from this point forward support him with violent love.

Snail-Chu, I Choose You!

I always wonder how incredible life would be if I were a snail - Eating leaves all day with my house attached to my back... though I can imagine I'd have to change my salt filled diet else I might face severe explosion. Anyway, the one thing putting me off (other than that dastardly salt) is the fact that I couldn't have a Pikachu tattoo unlike I do on my human self; Well now all that has changed, this snail really is the definition of, "Snail of the millennium".

Rumour has it that this snail woke up shocked and disgusted when he saw Jigglypuff vandalizing his shell, bless.

"Damn, I have sand in my cap!"

Turns out aliens didn't just create the pyramids, they also created Super Mario - His earliest drawings can be found inside various Egyptian tombs. It begs the question though, is this yet another sign to 2012? I think so - watch out for aliens bursting out of green pipes come December 2012 (And let's hope to god those aliens aren't Octoroks, the bastards).

If I knew you were coming I'd have baked a cake...

…Or indeed a couple of roast dinners, a curry and several crab sticks if it’s E. Honda knocking on my door.

Anyway, Street Fighter – You love it right? In that case lets celebrate by eating cupcakes! That’s what this savage gamer/cook/hair enthusiast decided when creating the beautiful fusion of hair and cake.

On the top row you have the head fuzz of Ryu, Ken, Blanka and Guile whilst on the bottom row it’s E. Honda, Chun-Li (Beast legs), Zangief and Dhalsim.

Pika Lips

A good friend, otherwise known as Amie-Leigh, is a Pikachu at heart and to show her inner electric mouse she made these amazing lips – Tell me the Ash Ketchum inside of you didn’t just explode with joy.

Yeah, it turns out that Amie-Leigh can do a better job at making Pokémon look attractive than Jynx ever could, that purple whore.

That’s not all though, Amie-Leigh is a budding make-up artist with loads more awesome stuff to show off, including X-Men inspired make-up! Check out more of her work and keep up to date with her latest endeavors by going on her Facebook page!

Mario Mustache Glass!

Mario loves a shot or two; in fact he was reported to have done a duet with Ke$ha where he stated he was "try'na get a little bit tipsy". One problem though - half of his shot gets absorbed by that lip hair of his! Solution? Don't have a mustache, just have a glass mustache instead!

These are perfect for when you want to pay tribute to any mustache wearing fiend but don't want to undergo the obvious social trauma involved. Click here to buy the glasses (Both the Mario and Wario varieties - Score!).

Sonic Generations

The official SEGA BLOG shed new light on Sonic's latest game today and finally gave it an official name after it's video unveiling last week, Sonic Generations. The video posted by SEGA America and SEGA Europe last week saw Sonic racing against his former, 1991 self. Nothing more was known about the game - until now!

It turns out that the game will be a complete celebration of the last 20 years of Sonic and will be a HD re-imagining of some of his past games. There will be three distinct ways to play including classic sonic which see's you running along a 2D plain (much like in Sonic 4) and the new 3D style akin to games such as Sonic Adventure 2 or Sonic Heroes.

SEGA have briefly outlined the story which includes 'time holes' - This will see Sonic travelling through time and pairing up with old forgotten characters, as well as classic characters from his past - Even his past self!

“Sonic Generations will certainly be a fitting celebration for Sonic’s 20th Anniversary. By having the classic 1991 Sonic that many fans know and love team up with his modern day incarnation, we are bringing back the nostalgia of the early days of Sonic and combining it with the innovation and stunning HD technology of the modern gaming era. Sonic Generations will bring to life the last twenty years of Sonic’s universe in a truly unique and imaginative way.” - David Corless, Global Brand Director for Sonic.

The game is set to be released Winter 2011 on the 360 and PS3. At this point it is not likely to be on a Nintendo console but with all these Wii 2 rumours lately, as well as developers reportedly saying they have had "dev kits for months", who knows what may happen from now until winter!

All I know is, Sonic is back on top form! Check out the new Gameplay video released today by SEGA:

The N64 Lives!

…At least, it does on your 3DS (Or hidden away somewhere in your attic, natch) with the return of two of the 64′s best games – Star Fox 64 (or Lylat Wars as it’s known here in Europe) and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time!

Both of these games are being re-released for 3DS and boast updated graphics with various new features which is sure to excite any retro gamer, what’s even better is that Nintendo have recently revealed release dates for both titles!

Star Fox is set for release on the 14th July in Japan. There’s no confirmation on the US and UK dates so far but considering Nintendo’s recent releases you can bet you won’t have to wait much longer. Nintendo have also recently launched an official Japanese site for Starfox showing off the intro scene of the game – Head on over to Nintendo Japan now to check it out.

Now onto the Zelda side of things – Ocarina of Time 3D will be released in Japan on June 16th, Europe on June 17th and America on June 19th; so it won’t be long before you can once again begin your adventure through the world of Hyrule, annoying chickens and tossing pots around all day long.

As well as this, it’s recently come to light that it’s not actually Nintendo who are handling the development side of Ocarina Of Time but instead a little known studio called Grezzo who have so far only released a handful of small games, one of those being a Japan only WiiWare release. It may seem like an odd move but Nintendo obviously has faith in them and Grezzo is run by former Square employee and developer of the Mana series, Koichi Ishii. In that respect it’s a similar kind of venture as Prope, a fairly small development team with Yuji Naka at the helm, creator of the Sonic series; If Grezzo lives up to the potential that Prope did, we have nothing to worry about.

Despite the fact that the remake isn’t actually being made by Nintendo then, it does seem to be in good hands and who could be dumb enough to ruin a remake anyway? Oh yeah, Rare – How Diddy Kong Racing DS ended up such a disaster I’ll never know.

A Wild Blogger Appeared!

Imagine if someone created a robotic Yoshi (hasta la vista, Bowser!), or a corny 50’s song about Donkey Kong, or a Mini emblazoned with Pac-Man - Well, you don’t need to imagine any more as I’ll make it my mission to bring all of these wonderful things to your innocent eyes so that you can bask in their obscurity and beauty.

This blog is all about the crazy and out there things that go on in the world of videogames - I have a huge love of gaming, especially retro stuff like the SNES, Mega Drive, Dreamcast and N64 (along with others obviously!).

With that out of the way then, let me introuduce you to me - I’m a human version of Birdo, y’know, that Pink trans-sexual one who goes out with Yoshi; misunderstood, slightly odd looking and totally bad ass.

I have a love of Scatman John (Bee bop ba bado bop!), Shigeru Miyamoto, RareWare, Ken Hirai and CHICKEN! I find Ke$ha inspirational and Zac Efron is my role model; I love sarcasm and have a habit of making a terrible first impression.

This Blog is a reincarnation of one I started back in November over at Joystick Junkies, click here to check it out - It was great while it lasted but it pretty much died when everyone else in our party of 10 writers gave up. So after flogging a dead horse for a few months I’ve decided to let it go and have the peaceful demise it deserves!

So here’s to the future of celebrating the past!
